A substantial extension to industrial units in Ballinamallard that could create up to ten new jobs was officially launched today (Friday 30th November 2007) by Alexander Smyth, Joint Director General of the International Fund for Ireland and Councillor Alex Baird, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council.
Situated on the Enniskillen Road, the new extension, which has been developed by Ballinamallard Enterprise Company, will provide workspace of 7,500 sq ft incorporating five new industrial units for business development.
The project has been funded by the International Fund for Ireland, which has contributed £250,000 to the scheme, Fermanagh District Council in association with the European Regional Development Fund through the Building Sustainable Prosperity programme, which has granted £232,000, Fisher Engineering which has contributed £5,000 and Fermanagh Trust which has granted £5,000. The remainder of the funding has been raised by the Group.
Ballinamallard Enterprise Company was established in 1998 to promote economic development through the provision of affordable workspace units and create much needed community facilities in the Ballinamallard area. The new building, which is already complete, will bring the total number of workspace units provided by the group to nine with the potential to employ over 20 people.
Speaking at the official opening, Alexander Smyth, said: “Creating conditions where businesses can flourish has been a key area of activity for the Fund. The Board of Ballinamallard Enterprise Company has already shown that enterprise can be nurtured through the provision of affordable workspace. I am positive that this new expansion will act as a catalyst for increased investment in the area and will stimulate the growth of both new and established businesses.
“The International Fund for Ireland has enjoyed a successful relationship with Ballinamallard Enterprise Company for the past ten years, through the Company’s participation in the Fund’s Community Leadership Programme and via funding for the original business units. We are delighted to be here again to give our wholehearted support to the group.”
Councillor Alex Baird, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, said: "I would like to congratulate Ballinamallard Enterprise Company on the development of this much needed workspace for the local area. The enterprise group has shown great foresight, vision and commitment in the development of the project which will have a significant impact on the local economy. The Council, in association with the European Regional Development Fund through the Building Sustainable Prosperity programme, is absolutely delighted to have funded this community project and wishes it continued success in the future.
Ernie Fisher, Chairman of Ballinamallard Enterprise Company, said: “Without the help of major funders such as The International Fund For Ireland, Fermanagh District Council and the European Regional Development Fund we would not have been able to provide these additional workspace units.
“As a result of completion of this project we will have brought much needed employment and necessary services to our local community. The rental income from this additional workspace will be used to fund further projects within the village of Ballinamallard in the future. We would like to thank all our funders for their continued support of Ballinamallard Enterprise Company.”
Ballinamallard Enterprise Centre is currently occupied by seven tenants who employ up to nine people in businesses as diverse as hairdressing to window manufacturing. The International Fund also part funded the original business units which were opened in 2000.
