£1.2m business centre officially opened in Craigavon

Published on:  13 Apr 2006

International Fund for Ireland Chairman Denis Rooney has officially opened a new £1.2m business centre in Brownlow, Craigavon.

Situated at Moyraverty Road West, the Bluestone Business Park comprises 15,000 sq ft of industrial units and 1,500 sq ft of office accommodation.

The newly redeveloped Phase I of Bluestone Business Park was supported by the International Fund for Ireland, the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (PEACE II  Measure 1.1A), Craigavon Borough Council and Brownlow Ltd.

The industrial units have been fully let to 15 tenants and the centre currently provides employment for 82 people.

With the success of Phase I Brownlow Ltd is formulating plans to redevelop the remainder of the site which will result in an additional 35,000 sq ft of enterprise space.

Speaking at the official opening the Fund’s Chairman Denis Rooney said, “We are very pleased to have been able to assist with the redevelopment of Phase I of the Bluestone Business Park.  The wards that comprise the Brownlow area have been independently identified as ranking highly in terms of deprivation and have low levels of economic and commercial activity.  The development of the business park complements new residential developments in the area and will allow Brownlow to tackle social and commercial exclusion and marginalisation and to keep pace with the redevelopment of Craigavon as a whole.”

United States Consul General Dean Pittman congratulated Brownlow Ltd on the completion of Phase I of the Business Park and expressed the hope that it would make a significant contribution to the social and economic regeneration of the area.

Congratulating the Chairman and Board of Brownlow Ltd on their achievement, Eddie McVeigh, Head of the European Commission Office in Northern Ireland said, “This project demonstrates the important contribution that the EU PEACE Programme is making to local economic development.  It is creating the conditions for the development of a thriving small business sector which is essential if Northern Ireland is to move forward economically and socially.”

Cllr George Savage Mayor of Craigavon Borough Council said, “Craigavon Borough Council is committed to the development of partnership for the betterment of the Borough and I believe that this new facility demonstrates what can be achieved when different groups work to the same objective and with a single vision.”

Eric McKinley Chairman of Brownlow Ltd said, “As Chairman I am proud that Brownlow Ltd has been able to commence the redevelopment of Bluestone Business Park which will provide modern up to date work spaces for budding entrepreneurs and increased employment in the Brownlow sector of Craigavon.”
