Fund announces a further EUR8.8m/STG7.4m to fund a variety of projects.
The International Fund for Ireland has announced its latest funding package following its most recent Board meeting in Co. Louth. Mr. Denis Rooney, Chairman of the Fund, said: "There has never been a more important time to put all our energies into the promotion of peace building activities aimed at helping communities to reconcile past differences and create a new shared future. The current economic difficulties can leave the more marginalised people in our society further isolated, and at greater risk of involvement with dissident groups. Positive action is needed to address this. Today's funding announcement demonstrates our continued commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable interventions which will help both major traditions on the island of Ireland to learn, work, live and build a shared future together."
The Chairman also took the opportunity to thank the international donors, the European Union and the Governments of the United States of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, for their support.
Today's announcement by the International Fund for Ireland of its latest funding package totals EUR8.8m/STG7.4m. Included in this package is:
- Over EUR7.3m/STG6m for the Fund's Community Based Economic and Social Regeneration Programme. Fifteen projects based across Northern Ireland and the southern border counties will reap the benefits of much needed funding, which will go some way towards supporting economic regeneration as a basis for cross-community and cross-border activities.
- More than EUR1m/STG845k for a range of projects supported by the Fund's Community Bridges Programme. All of these are designed to deliver ground-breaking community work that addresses difference and division in our society.
- EUR560k/STG467k has been allocated across the Fund's Integrating Community Organisations and Sharing in Education Programmes to enable Cromac Regeneration Initiative and the Corrymeela Community to deliver projects designed to promote and facilitate real integration and make significant progress towards securing lasting and sustainable peace.
