Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA, officially opened the Mayobridge Environmental Improvement Scheme today.The scheme includes improvements to the pedestrian footbridge, footpaths, lighting, bus shelter and the removal of tree stumps in the central village area at a cost of over £140,000.Speaking at the opening of the Scheme, Minister Ritchie said: “These improvements will benefit those living and working in Mayobridge. It will make the village more appealing to residents and visitors alike. I would like to congratulate all those involved in the development and delivery of this excellent scheme, in particular the Mayobridge Community Development Association. Without the voluntary efforts of the Community Development Association, projects like this could never be delivered. This scheme sees much needed improvements to the appearance of Mayobridge. ”The project was jointly funded by the Department for Social Development and the International Fund for Ireland, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, East Border Region Tourism Partnership, Newry & Mourne District Council, Ulster Wild life Trust and the Department for Regional Development.  It was taken forward by Newry & Mourne District Council and Mayobridge Community Development Association.
