The International Fund for Ireland has paid tribute to the former deputy first minister of Northern Ireland and deputy leader of the SDLP Seamus Mallon.
Paddy Harte, Chairman of the International Fund for Ireland said;
“On behalf of the International Fund for Ireland, I would like to personally express my sadness at the passing of Seamus and offer sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Seamus made an extraordinary contribution to politics and to the people on this island. His commitment to peace building and reconciliation provided the platform for many more to follow his lead.
A politician and community activist, Seamus played a central role in the peace process, engaging across communities and divisions to bring about a more prosperous Northern Ireland. As a community leader, Seamus was a true friend of peace in Northern Ireland and it is testament to his legacy that so many have come out to pay their respects and remember him.”
