Chairman pays tribute to Pat Hume

Published on: 3 Sep 2021

Paddy Harte, Chairman of the International Fund for Ireland has paid tribute to Pat Hume, who he has described as “a force for good in the peace process”.

“We’ve lost a true advocate of the peace process in Pat Hume, a lady who dedicated her life and family to the pursuit of a peaceful future for all.

“Pat not only demonstrated an unwavering support for the work of her late husband John Hume, but she herself was a true champion of peace - leading by example for many who followed.

“Through some incredibly difficult and often hostile circumstances Pat supported John in his work towards peace and reconciliation - believing in what could be achieved through compassion, commitment and a genuine belief in the people of this island”.

“I was always delighted to meet Pat and counted her as a friend. Her warmth and good grace was infectious. To Pat’s children and wider circle of family and friends, I offer my sincere condolences”.
