A new documentary published by the Financial Times outlines how the barriers still facing communities in Northern Ireland are shaping the political and economic landscape.

The Financial Times’ Ireland correspondent Jude Webber met a range of people across Northern Ireland who are working to build a better, shared future for all.

Her documentary, titled “Northern Ireland: A legacy of divisions”, explores where Northern Ireland stands now relative to its troubled past and the complex issues, both new and old, that are being faced today. Issues that threaten to disrupt the precious progress made since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

Speaking in the documentary the Fund’s Chairman Paddy Harte explains that while progress has been made, the journey is far from over. Elsewhere, representatives from the IFI-funded Duncairn Community Partnership project show the physical divisions that remain and explain how, for those that have lived in the shadow of peace walls for up to 40 years, these barriers can be like ‘comfort blankets’ that are very hard to let go of. In order to move forward "You have to show people that there's another possibility, another life".
